Tothisphenomenon,people’sopinionsvaryfromeachother.Somethinkthattheresultsoftherankingarehelpfulforhighschoolstudentstochooseamajorfieldofstudy,e.g.,someliststellpeoplewhatmajorswillleadtodecentjobsaftergraduation.Somepeople,however,believethatmanylistsareactuallyuseless.Rankingsareonlyaboutnumbersandtheydonottellyouanythingaboutthedistinctnatureofthemajor.Besides,somemajorsmaybelistedashotmajorswhenstudentsentercolleges,butwillbeunpopularwhentheygraduate.
AsfarasI’mconcerned,weshouldnotover-stressmajorranking.Itshouldberememberedthatrankingscanplayabigroleintheselectionofamajorbutitshouldnotbetheonlycriterion.Manyfactorsincludingyourownperceptionofthemajorshouldmatterinyourfinalchoice.
