Mr. Li was hurrying to attend a lesson of an Australian teacher when he caughtsight of the red light. In Gold Coast there were much fewer passers-by than inShanghai, especially at 1:30 p. m. when people were busy working. Nobody wouldhave noticed him had he neglected the red , he waited, and waited for the green light. _ There might besomething wrong with the light,_ thought he, but anything against the traffic ruleswas out of the question, for he wass a visiting Chinese teacher. Just then came an oldAustralian gentleman, who felt surprised at the foreigner waiting alone by the road._Good afternoon,_ he said in Japanese, unexpectedly. _Good afternoon, butsorry I don't know much Japanese, for I am a Chinese,_. responded Mr. Li, inEnglish. Obviously astonished, the Australian explained he took it for granted that Mr. Li was from Japan, for Japanese tourists were always in good manners. Mr Li often tell us students to always remmember we're from China, and we Chinese people are always in good manners.
