Themajorityofcollegeteachers,especiallyoldteachers,arguethatstudentsshouldgiveuploveandconcentrateonlearning.Theysaythatcampusloveistime-and-energy-consumingandtearsstudentsawayfromtheirmaintask.Ifastudenteverfallsinlove,he/shewillundoubtedlyneglecthis/herstudiesandgraduallylagbehindhis/herclassmates.Afewteachers,therefore,suggestthattheuniversityauthoritiesrestorethetraditionalregulationagainstloveduringstudents'schoolyears.
Onthecontrary,studentsholdthatitisnaturalforyoungpeopletofallinloveonthecampusbecausetheymeeteverydayandtheireverydaymeetingproducesromanticpassiontowardseachother.TheyinsistthatthecampusisnottheGardenofEdenandloveisnottheForbiddenTree.Theytakeforexamplesomeoftheirfriendswho,fallinginlove,arestudyingharderandhavemadegreaterprogresstopleasetheirboy/girlfriends.
Inmyopinion,bothviewsarelop-sided.Ifastudentdoesnotgivehimself/herselfawayinlovebuttakesitasadrive,loveproducespositiveeffect.Butifhe/sheindulgeshimself/herselftoodeeplyinlove,thenhe/shewillbeadevotedloverbutafrustratedlearner.
