We,inturn,shouldalsoworkhardinordertoguaranteethecomfortandsafetyofgenerationstocome.Sustainabledevelopmenthasbecomeatopicofheateddebateinrecentyears.Whileitisjustifiabletosatisfycurrentdemands,wecannotneglecttheneedsofourdescendantsintheprocess.OurchildrenalsodependonEarth'snaturalresourcesandweshouldnotdeprivethemofsuchnecessities.

Unfortunately,manypeopleonlythinkoftheirshortterm,personalinterests.Anentireforestmightbeclearcut,intheinterestofmakingaprofit,withoutasingletreeplantedinitsplace.Thisinconsiderateattitudetowardsthewelfareofourdescendants,aswelltheindifferencetotheoutcomeofsuchrecklessactions,canonlyturnEarthintoacoldandlifelessplanet.PeoplemustbetaughttoappreciateEarthasnotonlytheirhome,butalsothehomeofourchildrenandgrandchildren,aswellasallotherplantsandanimals.

Whilemakinggreateffortstoincreaseourcurrentqualityoflife,wemustsimultaneouslyconsiderhowouractionswillaffectfuturelives.

Insocialdevelopment,weshouldnotoverutilizeournaturalresources,asinthecaseofforests.Areasonableuseofforestsandreforestationarethebestchoicesinthelongrun.Humanbeingsshouldplanaheadwhenitcomestosocialdevelopment.Eventhoughtreesareinshortdemandtoday,wemuststillkeep

thedeforestationundercontrol,forwedonotwanttoeliminateallofourforests,whichareessentialtoourexistence.Reforestationisanotherwisepractice.Wemaynotfullybenefitfromplantingtreesforthetimebeing,butwemustcontinuedoingso,sinceitwillbenefitlatergenerations.

Fromthepointofviewofsustainabledevelopment,wehavetheresponsibilitytoensurethatfuturegenerationshaveenoughnaturalresourcestouseandarenotpenalizedfortheshortsightednessofpresentdaydecisionmakers.Inotherwords,weshouldnotuseupournaturalresourcesjusttomeetourownpresentdayneeds,whileignoringthefutureofourplanet.

画中可见，一位父亲种了一棵小树，这棵小树将长成参天大树，他的儿子将会从中受益。多年以后，他的儿子坐在树下享受着大树带来的阴凉。

在社会发展中，我们不能过度使用自然资源，比如说森林资源。从长远来说对森林的合理利用和植树造林是最好的选择。人类应当为社会发展做长远的打算。尽管木材在当今社会十分短缺，我们也必须控制滥砍滥伐，因为我们不愿看到森林这一人类赖以生存的基础被彻底用尽。植树造林无疑是又一项英明的举措。我们也许暂时不能够充分享受植树给我们带来的益处，但是我们必须继续将这一举措坚持下去，因为它会使我们的后代受益。

从可持续发展的角度来看，我们有责任来保障后代有丰富的自然资源可利用，并且不会使他们因今天决策者的目光短浅而受到惩罚。换句话说，我们不应该仅为满足我们自己当前的需要而用尽所有的自然资源，忽视我们后代的需求。
